Baseball Fitness for High School

For those players looking at High School baseball check out this program to build your strength and skills.

This was sent to my by James Coleman with Elite Sports Performance (ESP) and I am forwarding. This is an exceptional speed, strength and agility program for young athletes and is available right here in Fleming Island. He has put together a "Baseball Specific" workout program and is offering a discount to FI Baseball Players.
I encourage you to do your own research and talk to some of the players or parents who are participating, or call James if you are interested and would like more information.

They can go on-line and register at www.zappsportz.com/register/espfibb. From there they can choose their package and rate they want to train.

Making the Summer JV Team at FIHS

As the league grows we are seeing more and more kids looking to begin playing at FIHS.  As you would expect it's fairly competitive.  I thought I would make a few notes about the tryouts as I just watched 5 of the FILL Junior players go thru the summer league tryouts for JV.

The information is sent to the public county schools in May, if you are at a private school you will need to contact them directly in May to find out the dates.
The Tryouts consisted of:
speed test: a 60 yard dash
long toss:  Deep right field to an infield cut off.
Infield throw: 3 throws from deep SS to first
Hitting: About 10 BP throws
Attendance: about 35

Summer ball allows the existing team to play as well, so newcomers are only trying out for remaining spots.  I am told the team could be 13 to 20 players.

The tryouts are very well organized and very cut and dry when it comes to having the skills or not.  It's important that you know your strongest postion because that is how they will judge you.

Summer ball consists of 25-30 day games so it's a full summer commitment.  If you don't make the Summer team you can still tryoout for the Fall team, so it's important to listen to any results from the Summer tryouts if you want to improve and try again.

I have been told they want Pitchers at about 70mph with control of several pitches, curve, screw, etc.  If you are a little under that but have good control, I'd still tryout.

The coaches from the first meeting also required all candidates to begin a workout regiment.  The workouts consist of push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, along with wrist rolls and forearm exercises with lots of stretching as well.

If you are looking for something more, you might be interested in looking at http://believebeyondthebest.com/ they offer what looks like a really good program for athletes trying to take it to the next level.

Bottom line is that making the team takes preparation, determination along with measurable skills.
I hope this helps anyone thinking about making the JV team.
